Family Support offers peer support and information
to families with children with special healthcare needs. Services
are also available for the service providers who work with families
and for those who are at risk. In addition to providing peer support
and information, Our family support project encourages
family-centered practice by facilitating partnerships between
families and service providers.
Learning that your child has special medical needs
or a disability can be a life altering experience, at least for a
time. As a parent, you may have questions and concerns about your
child's needs or your own feelings and may not know anyone in a
similar situation. Recognizing that the family is an interconnected
unit, peer support is also offered to the siblings of children with
special needs. Research has shown that the two most valuable sources
of support for families with children with special needs are peer
support and information. Our program provides a unique and valuable
service for families.
