No Plastic Spoons
|
Skipping the plastic will make the world a better place. It’s really convenient to drop one in your lunch sack, but the resources used to produce that plastic spoon have lasting environmental effects. Instead, take along a metal version from home. It’s much easier to wash one of these than it is to make one of the others. Besides, you create no new waste, and you’ve got a shiny companion to join you for lunch day after day. Petroleum (a non-renewable resource) is used to make the spoon. It may be easier to use something once and throw it away, but it’s better to save some precious natural resources.

In my office, we have real dishes, flatware, glassware and cloth napkins. We've trained ourselves to refuse plastic ware from the takeout places around here, and we trade off weeks on who gets to take the dirty napkins home to wash.
