Recycle the Cell

Put old cell phones to good use.

Since 1999, less than 1% of mobile phones have been recycled. So think again before you trash your phone or stick it in your sock drawer and forget about it. There are lots of environmentally friendly ways to turn your phone into charity, not trash. Drop off old phones at a participating recycling location or ship them to Virgin Mobile free of charge. They’ll either restore your phone, passing it on to people who can’t afford to purchase them, or if the phone is totally out of commission, Virgin Mobile will recycle the parts in an environmentally correct way.

The local women's shelter in our community uses the old phones to provide to women and children who may be in an abusive environment. The phones are given to clients, mostly abused or battered women, who can dial 911 in case of an emergency.
