Put a Lid On It
Snap it tight instead of zipping it closed. If you're cool enough to save leftovers, store them in reusable containers. Invest in a good set of plastic food storage bins with some nice lids so you won't be using plastic bags that are only good for a single use and then get banished to the landfill. Also, if you pack a sandwich for lunchtime, carry it to work or school in something you can take home, wash, and use again. Plastic serves us best when we can reuse or recycle it. You should forget about the rest in order to make your world a cleaner, greener place.

Never EVER apologize for a comment of ANY length. We welcome them with open eyes... Meryl commented, on July 30, 2007 at 1:01 p.m.: I appreciate the comment since I always heat everything in the plastic container. I am guessing it is not safe,; if you are still 'out there' can you post the reason why? Thanks Jeffrey commented, on August 30, 2007 at 8:48 a.m.: Meryl, i posted an in-depth look at this topic of heating food in plastics on my blog, check it out if you'd like. I hope it helps. Jeffrey commented, on August 30, 2007 at 8:49 a.m.: oh sorry, that hyperlink didn't work, but at least you can grab the url. great info to pass along sam.
even better (for the environment AND your health) is to store food in a glass container with a plastic lid. Pyrex has some wonderful storage containers, including some nifty portables options.
any time you can keep your food away from contact with plastic (especially when you heat it up...don't EVER heat food up in a plastic container), the benefit is greater.
With Pyrex, you have the benefit of a plastic top that can be sealed for freshness and easy transportation, but on a glass bowl for enviro and health benefits.
nice post! (sorry for the long comment)
