Without a Car in the World
Celebrate by not driving. Tomorrow is World Carfree Day. All over the globe, car owners and drivers are encouraged to get out of their cars and stay out. While we'll inevitably climb back inside them to get where we need to go next week, it is important to think about ways that we can each do our own small part to help improve the environment. And not driving is one fine example. If enough people in your community participate, you'll get a glimpse of what life could be like if we all didn't rely on four wheels so much. Think and don't drive.

Thanks Kim for sharing. Anybody else out there carless and loving it? Jeff commented, on September 21, 2007 at 9:59 a.m.: I have been semi-carless for almost two months now. Fresh out of college, and starting in the working world, I wanted to avoid the typical driving commute. For 6 months, I drove 22 miles one-way to work in Phoenix AZ, which sees horrible amounts of traffic. I was so fed up - and decided to move closer, and now I bike 8.5 miles one way, every day to work. I started in August (in Phoenix...) and have only driven once or twice since. Bikes are awesome! Erin commented, on September 21, 2007 at 11:37 a.m.: we have a parking problem on campus at MTSU, so in order to bypass wasting gas, I've decided to drive to the parking lot that's off campus and ride my bike a good 10-15 mintues to class! My husband and I don't own a car. We live in a major urban area and we use public transportation or a service called Zipcar which is a community car. We got rid of our car in 1988 and haven't missed it at all...
