Random Acts of Christmas
Put a stranger on your list. Many of us have holiday cards and photos arriving by the mailbox-load this time of year. And while it's lots of fun to give and get these from loved ones, you can really brighten someone's day by sending them a card - even if you don't know them. Go ahead and try it out. Take a blank card and flip to a random page in the phone book. Then, send them some holiday wishes (and explain what you're doing so they're not too confused). You'll make someone's day just a little bit better with a simple act of intentional community.

We won't have names, but hopefully the recipients will have a slightly brighter season this year. Herb commented, on December 11, 2007 at 2:15 p.m.: This is a really cool idea. I'm glad my friend Ronnie Steine linked me to your site. Everybody needs more compassion. I had one cool idea in college, where a friend and I would select one random person a week and then write on a single piece of paper every unique and cool thing thing we could think of about them. Then we would shove it under their door anonymouysly and run. It makes you value the folks around you a little more, and connects you even if they don't know it.
