5 minutes of caring

I Notice You

I Notice You

See what someone else is doing.

A lot of us just want some simple validation. We want to be recognized for the work we're doing and the impact we're making. Generate some cool karma for yourself then, by letting someone else know that you notice them. Send a coworker a note and thank them for a job well done. Smile at a stranger at the coffee shop, letting them know you know they exist. Encourage a child as they dance or draw to their heart's content. Increase the possibility for real human community by taking the initiative to let someone else know that they matter.

There is a wonderful book written by Tom Rath and Donald O. Clifton called "How Full is Your Bucket" based on the principles of the positive effect we can have on each others' lives. The website has a quiz and talks about the book. It is book full of practical positive thinking and actions.

Giving recognition to others is a gift to yourself, too! I teach creative movement for children and a large percentage of my job is giving encouragement. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that one of the dad's had a new haircut and mentioned that it looked nice. The next week, his wife came with him and said that he was bragging about how "Ms. Mari" had told him that his haircut looked good! lol Even small things can make a big difference in a person's day and the response you get can be better than getting compliments yourself!
