5 minutes of caring

2-for-1 for Good

2-for-1 for Good

Use that coupon to furnish a food bank.

If you like saving money as much as you like saving time, try this: the next time you come across money saver such as a "buy one, get one" offer, give the one your get for free to a local food bank. While it's good to stock your shelf with extra soup or black beans, consider stocking the shelf of a nonprofit that provides free food to those who need it. If you've never clipped those Sunday coupons before, this is a good reason to start. Fill your buggy with good offers and good food for a good cause.

Another good thing to do is to give $$ to your local food bank. The Second Harvest Gleaners Food Bank in our area is able to maximize donations because the cost of distribution for surplus food donated to them (by stores or manufacturers) is only about 16 cents per pound. When my children's school would do a food drive I could easily spend $20 on a single bag of groceries. The same $20 donated to my local food bank provides 125 pounds of food (plus it qualifies for a tax credit). Check it out -- it's an easy way to make a HUGE difference. :)

I agree with Susan. Another thing is some local resources will allow you to volunteer at their facilities and you can donate those hours towards pounds of food for you local food bank. Think about getting a youth group or even just a few like minded and conscientious friends together and putting in just a few hours on a weekend. That time volunteered could translate into enough food to stock your food banks shelves for a month! If you live in Colorado... Food Bank of the Rockies is where I first learned of this concept.
