(Sixty)Eight Is Enough

Set your thermostat to 68 in the winter.

Along with changing your clocks this past weekend, we hope you also took a good, hard look at your thermostat. Now that a chill is in the air, make sure to set your indoor temperature gauge at 68 degrees. This is the optimal temperature for your home in winter (it's 78 during the summer). If you think 68 just isn't enough, consider this: for each degree you raise your thermostat above 68, you can expect to pay roughly 5% more in heating and utility costs. Maybe it makes sense (and cents) to put on socks or don a sweater.
