A Day Without Shoes

Spend time learning about the need for footwear everywhere.

Whether Shoeless Joe is your hero or you just like to take your kicks off every now and again, have you ever stopped to consider what it would be like to not have shoes? Today, TOMS Shoes is asking people that very question, hosting events all over the US in order to raise awareness about the world's shoeless. Many people in other countries must walk miles barefoot for basic necessities and can contract diseases by doing so. But, it's easy to provide shoes for someone: purchase a pair of TOMS or make a donation to our friends at Soles4Souls.

Speaking of shoes, it's not too late to win free socks!

This is one that even a shoe-hound like me can get behind. As Tom's says, it's a step in the right direction!

Shipping used footwear overseas may feel good, but it may be counterproductive. Shipping used clothing to developing countries, particularly in Africa, has led to the destruction of local textile industries. The better practice is to collect funds here that can be used to purchase footwear locally - that way both the local industry and the people without shoes benefit.
