The COOL Guide to Holiday Shopping – Green Gifts

Cool People Care » » The COOL Guide to Holiday Shopping – Green Gifts

Yikes. You’ve only got two more weeks until Christmas Eve. Or 11 days until Hanukkah. Or both. So what are you going to get that person on your wish list who seems to have nearly everything? Or what can you get the future in-laws in order to showcase your creativity? And how can you make sure that your gift giving habits are positive ones?

Take a deep breath. Calm down. Keep reading.

We’re here to help.

For starters, you can take part in our annual Christmas is Not Your Birthday campaign. This gem of an idea makes sure you’re focusing on the planet this year by giving your loved ones gifts that help save the environment in some way. If you’ve glossed over these ideas for the past five Fridays, you can play catch up here.

Best of all, each idea comes with a printable gift tag so the recipient won’t be totally confused when he or she opens a power strip or a light bulb. Sure, they may think you did all your shopping at a hardware store, but at least they’ll know why.

And, if you’d like to give something a bit more conventional while minimizing your impact on Mother Earth, check out these highlights from our online store. All have assorted green features, mentioned below:

The Tree Line Water Bottle

Only 85% of all plastic water bottles are actually recycled. Wowzer. We could remove ourselves from that equation if we bypassed the bottled stuff completely. And that’s why we offer this BPA-free reusable water bottle.

The AIDS Organic Mug

The same thing can be said about coffee and other drinking cups, whether they’re plastic, paper or Styrofoam. You can brandish this organic (That’s right, it’s made from corn!) coffee mug when you show up at your local java joint. And, it’s red ribbon will also raise awareness about AIDS.

2008 New Day Poster

Our brilliant friend Jen Lemen made a poster. And then we printed it on recycled paper with soy-based inks. So, you can feel good about this print hanging on the wall of your bedroom, bathroom, cubicle and locker. Better yet, snag it and its 2007 compliment for a handy inspirational set.

Recycled Greeting Cards

It’s not too late to send out holiday cards. Really, it’s not. And, these recycled options will have you spreading a little eco-friendly cheer to boot. So, load up on your favorite design and grab some stamps. Or, if you’re thinking of gifting these, no problem. They’re blank inside, so they have yearlong appeal.

Tree Line T’s

Everything from our Tree Line raises awareness and money for environmental initiatives. So, if you like this tree, wear it across your chest and begin making a difference for the planet. Now available in light blue and dark green, your buddy will certainly like one of those choices.

And to top it all off, we offer a smattering of coupons which will help you save money and raise some money for a nonprofit. That’s like a present all by itself!

Check back next week for installment two of our giving guide. We’ll be featuring the needs and wishes from our nonprofit partners in our first annual Nonprofit Giving Guide.
