Cool People Live their Lives as ART!
Imagine if your life was a painting. Each day added a new color or brush stroke. Consider that all of the different things that you do have their own color. Now, really picture the painting that is your life right now. Is it in full Technicolor or does it have a more limited palette?
When you choose to live creatively, as the ARTIST of your own life, you make decisions more holistically, based on what is going to create the most desirable “painting,” or fulfilled life, rather than focusing on one or two goals (that would typically include career, money, etc.).
When your life is art, you naturally focus on bringing contrast into it (by varying your routine, trying new things, learning new skills), balance (considering others as well as yourself, balancing work time with leisure time, giving & receiving), and unity (feeling a part of a whole, creating passion and mission in your life that is reflective of your natural loves and talents). These are three of the eight principles of design that artists have used for centuries to create successful works of art and that any of us can use to create a successful work of art that is our life!
By choosing to place your emphasis (another design principle) on others through volunteer activity, you are adding tremendous depth and color to the art that is your life. Physiologically, you are also engaging your right hemisphere because that is the side that, rather than being ego centered, is holistic, “one with the universe,” part of the big, earth family. Your right hemisphere is also where your creativity lives and your ability to learn anything new.
So, whether you discover your artist within and that motivates you to volunteer your time and help others or you discover your artist within in the process of giving, you can be sure that you will be creating a life that is ultimately more fulfilling and joyful. You will be able to stand back, take a look at the painting of your life, and revel in the depth of color and design.
Prove it to yourself. Commit to a volunteer event, join a community that connects you with people you can help and see how great you feel afterward. It is the kind of great feeling that comes from aligning yourself with all that is kind and generous, loving and selfless. Ironically enough, it is your life that will be enriched and enhanced from the experience. Celebrate the art that is your life and everyone around you will celebrate as well!
