Citizen Schools is seeking volunteers in afterschool programs at various locations in West Houston! Volunteers are paired with an experienced staff member, receive extensive support and have the opportunity to build quality relationships with the young people they teach. This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who is seeking experience in the education field or for anyone interested in connecting to communities and youth.
WHO: Anyone who has a skill they could share with young people (age 9-14). Skills may range from cooking gourmet meals to speaking a foreign language to designing web pages. WHAT: Teach weekly 90 minute lessons for 11 weeks at a Citizen Schools afterschool campus to a group of 10-12 young people. WHEN: Training on January 30. Begin volunteering mid-February and end mid-May. WHERE: At a Citizen Schools afterschool campus: Grady Middle School, Long Middle School, Paul Revere Middle School, Sharpstown Middle School CITIZEN SCHOOLS is an innovative, national afterschool program that inspires and educates children while strengthening community through unique learning apprenticeships. Through a network of 30+ after-school program locations, Citizen Schools engages more than 2,000 students (ages 9-14) and 1,500 community volunteers annually.
