LECTURE: TEACHING GEOGRAPHY IS FUNDAMENTAL 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
|
Geography is the fabric around which other disciplines are woven; it examines the physical systems of the earth and overlays how those physical systems impact our lives.
To help lead our planet earth in the future, young Americans must understand political, economic, religious and environmental geography. In this lecture, sponsored by the Master of Liberal Arts Program at the Johns Hopkins University, Gilbert Grosvenor will speak on the importance of knowing and understanding geography in today’s world. Gilbert M. Grosvenor is chairman of the National Geographic Society’s Board of Trustees, its education foundation and its wholly owned subsidiary National Geographic Ventures. In 1996 he retired as president of the Society, the fifth generation of his family to serve in that position. During Grosvenor’s tenure as president, the Society greatly broadened its reach. Mr. Grosvenor is a director or trustee of numerous foundations, corporations, and institutions. He is the former Vice Chairman of the President’s Commission on Americans Outdoors, and former member of the President’s Commission on Environmental Quality. In 2004, Grosvenor received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Cost: Free!
