An example of a local celebration for World No Tobacco Day, over 200 Massachusetts youth leaders will come together in Westborough for “Power to Mass Youth! – The 84 Take Action” to draw attention to the dire consequences of the tobacco epidemic while connecting hundreds of youth leaders dedicated to tobacco-free communities. Comprised of over 1,000 Bay State youth, “The 84” movement represents the 84 percent of Massachusetts youth who choose not to smoke. “The 84” is passionate about smoke-free living, creating youth-led prevention programs with realistic and attainable solutions and creative strategies to positively change behavior. “The 84” strives to mobilize youth and adult allies who support healthy communities and build up relationships and positive action, rather than simply stirring up controversy. “Power to Mass Youth – The 84 Take Action” is coordinated by Mass Youth Against Tobacco, designed to engage Massachusetts youth ages 12 to 18 (or grade 7-12) in a statewide movement against tobacco.
