Friday, August 1

Vampires, Werewolves and Teenagers Boogie at Barnes & Noble 7:00 p.m.  –  11:00 p.m.

The Opry Mills Barnes & Noble bookstore will host a book release party Friday, August 1st from 7-11 pm with help from the local non-profit organization, Rocketown. The celebrated book is “Breaking the Dawn” by popular author Stephenie Meyer.

Students from Rocketown’s summer youth program will dance, sing, and catwalk their way through the evening. Barnes & Noble will exhibit student art and graphic design, live musical performances, breakdancing, Spoken Word and even a fashion show of the student’s handiwork.

Shoppers and viewers are invited to participate in games and face painting. A percentage of Barnes & Noble’s sales will be donated to Rocketown beginning August 1st. For the following two weeks, mall-goers can tell the cashier they are “shopping for Rocketown”. Proceeds will help Rocketown continue their mission to create culturally-relevant environments that foster vital relationships between disconnected teen and mentors. Rocketown’s vision is to help teens develop into healthy productive adults who are able to contribute to their communities.

Classes similar to the art, music, graphic design, and dance exhibitions will also be offered during the school year.

Rocketown began with the recognition that teens need a place to go that is not only safe, alcohol and drug free, but a place where they would also WANT to be. In 2003, the vision became reality. Within a year’s time an average of 1,350 kids a week started coming through the doors to participate in activities they love – dancing, skating, listening to live music, and hanging out with friends.
