Volunteer: Safe Haven Family Shelter all day

Even though Safe Haven Family Shelter has been around for a number of years, many people are still unaware of the organization and the volunteer opportunities available. SHFS is in dire need of volunteers in all areas. If you or someone you know is interested in serving at the shelter, please call Stephanie at 256-8195 or via email stinnell@safehaven.org.

The Arts At Safe Haven & Childcare Volunteers: The Arts at Safe Haven is designed to enrich the lives of our families through the visual arts, drama and music. The primary goal is to strengthen the bond between parents and children while they engage in an expressive activity. Volunteers will lead an art, drama or music project for families or assist leaders in those projects by way of childcare or just an extra pair of hands.

Overnight Volunteers: This is the greatest need. There is shelter in which volunteers must stay overnight. The overnight volunteer comes in around 5:45 pm to receive orientation and a briefing. He/She oversees the shelter and makes sure that the rules are being followed by the residents. He/She is responsible for answering the phones, making sure the residents are in their rooms at the appropriate time, locking the door at 10 pm and setting the alarm. The overnight volunteer is free to leave at 6 am the next morning.

Meal Volunteers: Requirements: Two or more individuals are asked to prepare an entree, two vegetable dishes, and a dessert for between 10-25 residents. Volunteers should be comfortable introducing themselves to the residents and mingling. Dinner is served from 6-7 PM.

Weekend Volunteers: There are two shifts that must be covered each day on the weekend at our 3rd Avenue locations: 8-1 pm 1-6 pm. The weekend volunteer mainly answers phones and interacts with residents.

Donation Pick up: We are in need of help picking up donations of furniture and other household items. All pick ups are done during the week between the hours of 9 am until 3 pm.
