Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

October marks the sixth annual Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month, an event organized by the New York–based nonprofit organization Art Education for the Blind (AEB), which was founded in 1987. AEB strives to ensure that art and culture are available to people of all ages through research, training of staff and volunteers at cultural institutions, curriculum and resource development, and fostering cross-institutional communication through a variety of collaborative opportunities. Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month is one such opportunity.
The month long event aims to raise public awareness about the benefits of accessible art by encouraging institutions around the world to offer inclusive programming. In celebration of this mission, the Walker offers public touch tours for people who are blind or have low vision, providing opportunities to experience artworks in the collection in a tactile way. A specially trained tour guide presents a well-balanced mixture of art-historical information and visual descriptions of the works being explored. Touch tours are open to the public and can accommodate up to 12 people on a first-come, first-served basis. Gloves will be provided. Touch Tours are on October 3, 2:00 pm, October 25, 2:00 pm Free with gallery admission.
