American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell
Organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum, with the support of an American Masterpieces grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell will trace the evolution of Rockwell’s art and iconography throughout his career – from carefully choreographed reflections on childhood innocence in such paintings as No Swimming (1921), to powerful, consciousness-raising images like The Problem We All Live With, created for Look magazine in the 1960s, that documented the traumatic realities of desegregation in the South. Rockwell’s artistic contributions and the impact of his images on American popular culture will be examined within the context of his life and times through in-depth exhibition text and a decade-by-decade installation of 41 original paintings and a complete set of 323 archival Saturday Evening Post cover tearsheets, which span 47 years. A designated segment of the exhibition will offer insights into the artist’s process, from first idea to finished painting and published work.

Step into the world of Norman Rockwell in the interactive exhibit, Rockwell's America. Norman Rockwell's art is as much a slice of Americana as baseball and apple pie. One of the most recognized and loved American artists, the covers of The Saturday Evening Post, his showcase for over 40 years, gave him an audience larger than that of any other artist in history.
