Defenders Day - The Star-Spangled Banner Weekend
Honor and remember the citizen-soldier past and present by being part of the Star-Spangled Banner Weekend in Baltimore. Join this patriotic weekend at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine and The Flag House & Star-Spangled Banner Museum September 12-14, 2008. The three-day event will feature parades, fireworks, a military encampment of over 100 War of 1812 reenactors, a symbolic ship-to-shore bombardment, noted authors, and a patriotic band concert.

Baltimore Book Festival
The mid-Atlantic's premier celebration of the literary arts offers well-known authors, local bookstores, publishers, children's writers, storytellers, author signings, crafts, refreshments and entertainment, September 26 - 28, 2008.

Friday, October 3
Date Night at McFadden Art Glass
Bring a date or a friend(s) by the studio for some live, hot glassblowing demonstrations and music. It is FREE to come hang out. In addition, we do a hands-on portion where participants can make a piece for $35, which is optional. There are going to be a bunch of other glassblowers this Friday doing some demonstrations as well. Also, the Glass Grill will have food and drink specials throughout the evening and will be open well after the Date Night for those that want to stay and hang out.

Saturday, October 11
Baltimore Running Festival
Baltimore's annual running festival challenges runners of all abilities. Sign up to compete in the marathon, half-marathon, Team Relay, 5K Race or Kids Fun Run. On race day, enjoy free live music, interactive games and more at the Celebration Village.

Foster Parent Training
Phoenix Homes, a nonprofit treatment foster care agency is currently recruiting families to provide homes for youth in Foster Care. Our goal is to provide every child with a safe, stable, and loving home, like yours, to grow.

Date Night at McFadden Art Glass
Bring a date or a friend(s) by the studio for some live, hot glassblowing demonstrations and music. It is FREE to come hang out. Also, we are offering another ornament making option this Friday for the upcoming season where you can design and make your own pieces on the lampworking torch for $20 to make a pair of icicles to hang from your tree or in a window. There are going to be a bunch of other glassblowers this Friday doing some demonstrations as well.

Volunteer: CASA of Baltimore
Thousands of children in Baltimore City are not safe living with their families. We can’t control where these children come from but we can have a positive impact on where they end up! It takes all of us, everyday people, to stand up and commit to making a meaningful difference in the lives of abused and neglected children. It starts, very simply, with one volunteer at a time.
