30th Annual Jubilee Festival of Heritage
Jubilee offers an array of programs and activities while celebrating the remarkable life and contributions of freed slave Celia Mann and her descendants, who lived and worked at this historic site until 1970.

The Auc­tion & Wild Game Feast begins at 6:00 p.m. when doors open for food, spirits, socializing, games and more. A silent auction kicks off the evening at 6:00 p.m., followed by a live auction beginning at 8 p.m.

Volunteer: South Carolina State Museum
Do you have a love of South Carolina history? Then the South Carolina State Museum has a terrific opportunity for you! Volunteer teachers, known as docents, are needed to conduct tours of the South Carolina State Museum for school groups and the general public. Docents must be be 18 years-old or older and available to conduct tours at least one weekday morning a month.

Main Street Marketplace
The Fall 2008 Main Street Marketplace will be held every Friday starting on September 5 and running through October 31 from 10am until 2pm at Boyd Plaza in front of the Columbia Museum of Art.

Friday, September 26
Irmo Okra Strut Festival
Located only 12-miles outside of Columbia, the strut began as a fundraiser by the Lake Murray-Irmo Women’s Club to raise money for a new library. Today, it is the largest known celebration of the slimy green vegetable. The first day includes the Okra Strut street dance featuring two favorite beach bands. Saturday begins with a parade and a 10K “Dam Run” to Irmo. Festivities include more than 100 arts and crafts exhibitors, “Okryland” kids' area, okra-eating and -growing contests and a full day of musical entertainment.
