MONDAY, NOV. 19, 2007 Christmas is (Still) Not Your BirthdayGood is good. But better is...well...better.
It's getting colder outside. You're starting to hear holiday music playing overhead in stores. TV commercials feature people unwrapping presents. Your kids are giving you a wish list. You're getting ulcers. It must be getting close to the holidays. Once again, in an effort to think less about consumption and more about giving this time of year, we bring you our popular "Christmas is Not Your Birthday" campaign. Last year, we challenged people to rethink this time of year and replace greedy wants with generous requests. We ran a series of 5 Minutes of Caring articles geared towards making you think about the winter holidays in a way that benefits others – not you. And this year, we're helping you plot an alternative course as you make trips to the mall and elsewhere in an effort to get gifts for those nearest and dearest to you. We're not asking you to stop shopping or to becomes as stingy as Scrooge. We're simply asking you to choose the better over the good. Generous Surfing
In search of online deals today? How about online giving? Give Better And we're here to help. The theme of this year's "Christmas is Not Your Birthday" campaign is to highlight ways to give better gifts. So, instead of choosing a good pair of shoes for someone, we'll show you a better pair. Instead of gifting some good coffee, we'll highlight a better blend. Instead of giving away a good candle, picture frame or shirt, we'll tell you where to pick up better ones. Because for us, good isn't good enough. It's time to be – and give – better. And for us, better means that more than one person benefits from your generosity. After all, it's good when you make one person happy with a gift. But, it's better when by giving that same gift, you benefit even more people. So, check us out each Monday between now and Christmas to find out how you can make the holidays better than ever by making a slightly different choice. Because Christmas (or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or Eid ul Adha or Yule) are still not your birthday. |
