Cool People Care » , , » The Giveaway Giveaway: Start Something That Matters by Blake Mycoskie

For this week’s giveaway, we’re getting kind of meta.

We’re offering up a copy of the book Start Something That Matters by Blake Mycoskie. He is the founder of TOMS shoes, which gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes sold. And, with this book, a book will be donated to a child in need.

So, when you win this book, you can feel great about the fact that a kid somewhere will also get a book.

Start Something That Matters is Mycoskie’s tale of how he started TOMS shoes, which became one of the fastest-growing footwear companies in the world by giving shoes away. He discusses the ups and downs of this adventure, as well as offers practical tips for anyone looking to start something that matters.

You can win a copy of Start Something That Matters by answering the question below:

What’s your big dream for the world?

Whether it’s silly or serious, we want to hear it. Weigh in via a comment below by Friday, February 3 at 5:00 PM Central Time. We’ll select one comment at random to win a copy of the book.

Enter as many times as you like, and don’t forget to spread the word about the contest via Twitter, Facebook, or carrier pigeon.

World peace ;) That would be a BIG big dream! Actually my big dream for the world would be that no one would ever go hungry and that all people had the necessities to live: shelter, food, water, hygiene & medical care, and clothing.

that people start – and continue! – to care: about and for each other and this planet.

A “free lunch” food truck. No prices on anything. If you can afford it, you leave something. If not, you can eat in peace and joy with those around you.

My big dream for the world? That we finally realize that the world doesn’t revolve around us, but that we are on this ride together. Why can we not help others out, and not worry about the paper-trails, protocols, and rules when it comes to just offering assistance that could make someone’s life better?

My biggest dream for the world, hands down, would be to be the best slave for jesus that I can be. I just realized I will never be perfect for him because even the hardest I try is a filthy rag. I want to BE BOLD and let God flow through me whenever andhowever he wants to

I envision a world where people are passionate about helping each other. Where instead of competing all the time, we know that by reaching out and helping each other, we all win. I am a massage therapist and I want to start my own business, giving part of all the profits away. Eventually I want to start a center for women that offers massages at dicounted rates, dance classes, etc. and that also offers classes on resumes and other information to help low-income women get jobs and/or start their own business. Basically a place that nurtures and grows strong women who can bring that light and strength back to their families and communities.

Water. Everywhere. Is that so much to ask? Apparently it is. My dream is that one day this basic need will be supplied to all clean and convenient.

My dream for the world is that everyone is a little less selfish, maybe that could start with some random acts of kindness, make everyone a little happier. Although it would also be nice to see bigger companies not be so selfish. For people sitting at home to realize that they don’t ‘need’ that pair of shoes and maybe other people actually do need a pair of shoes. I would like people to start realizing that there are others around us and if we don’t help them, then how would we ever expect to start getting others to help. If for example large companies, are so selfish why would anybody put trust into them, and therefore a foot forward towards a better world. My dream is that one day we can all see that we are all a human race. That we all have our problems, and we can help each other if some people would stop to realize their blessings and realize that other people are not as blessed as they are. This is my dream for the world and I hope that one day I will get to see it in action.

i dream of a lot of things for the world. one such dream is to end poverty. local, nationwide, and globally. i believe poverty contributes to many other social problems including crime, substance abuse, lack of education, unhappiness, and mental illness. poverty may contribute to the development of such things, or these things may increase the likelihood of poverty (what came first, the chicken or the egg kind of thing). if structural violence and the gap between the rich and the poor were decreased and the right to basic necessities were more emphasized, i think we all would be a little better off.

My big dream for the world is a change of heart, a change of attitude, a change of perspective, particularly in my generation. I believe we spend too much time talking about what’s wrong and what we dislike, how much “that guy” is to blame or isn’t as righteous as “me.” If we approach each day as an opportunity to spread hope, love, and encouragement rather than finger-pointing or making snarky remarks about everything, we would see change. We have to stop hiding behind our sarcasm and start doing things that will make life better for all.

My big dream for the world would be that all children have access to people who believe that they are the coolest thing in the world. There are no “perfect parents” and sometimes children can feel that they do not matter to anyone. Everyone deserves at least one person that loves them unconditionally, whether that is a relative, a teacher, a neighbor, or a church member.
