NYC Subway Girl Cathy Grier believes life=music=music=life which equates to being sensible about caring for our planet. Her message in her lyrics and music is positive, and believes music is a powerful tool that crosses boundaries of ignorance and hate.

Continuing the dialogue beyond music, NYCsubwaygirl.com includes a Sustainability Matters blog where Cathy discusses choices, and has cool simple actions we can all do. She has countless tips such as how to go about humidifying a guitar with recycled materials (see the video below). She also keeps an ongoing list of one thing you can do to make a difference, which includes ways to reuse “those pesky shipping ‘peanuts’?”. She’s also not afraid to ask the hard questions and points out why it’s worth bothering when it comes to living a life of “why bother?” a life of sustainability, which does take time, conscious effort, and intent.

Green is the new cool, but what does it mean to be green? NYC Subway Girl looks at the entire life cycle when it comes to sustainability, and she believes that making one choice is better than a no choice at all.
