The 16 Days Campaign

We’ve all heard of the 12 Days of Christmas, but this time of year, let’s spend some time focusing on the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign.

This initiative aims to raise awareness about gender violence as it is occurring around the world. Often missing from the headlines, brutality and discrimination based on gender is rampant around the world. Now, leading institutions have come together as part of the 16 Days campaign, and you can help put an end to these atrocities.

As a starting point, the campaign is taking open submissions on what the word “security” means. Often used globally or in terms related to militarism, the personal definition for this word is also important, especially for people in developing nations. You can leave your thoughts on the meaning of this word here.

Then, check out their free, downloadable action kit. Even though the 16 Days campaign wraps up later this week (December 10), you still have time to take action in your community, on your blog, with your co-workers, or others you know. Simply having a conversation about the statistics should be eye-opening for many while shining a light on this very real problem.
