What Are You Building?

My daughter and I built our holiday gingerbread house yesterday afternoon, and I have to say that our gingerbread house is fast becoming one of our most favorite holiday traditions. There’s something comforting about the aromas of icing, candy, and gingerbread, and even if the finished product looks more like an island hut than a swank mansion, it’s always a tasty treat.

What I adore most about the process is just that: regardless of the appearance of the completed house, the creation was made with so much good stuff that it was impossible to mess it up. Likewise, when we begin projects, if we vow to complete them with only good stuff – good intentions, well-developed plans, lots of love and a hefty amount of honest work – it’s guaranteed that even if the results aren’t exactly what we’ve hoped for, they are certainly worthwhile.

There is something really special about teaching your kids that when it comes to their dreams and how they can improve the world, with the right tools and the right attitude they can be assured of a positive outcome. Make this your goal with your kids throughout the holiday season and into the new year.
