It’s hard not to do, but the research is overwhelming: texting while driving increases your risk for an accident by as much as 23 times. While you may think you can multitask, sending a text while driving on the highway means you could travel the length of a football field without paying attention. One program, Zero Fatalities (currently only available in Utah and Arizona), aims to decrease needless deaths caused by distracted drivers. Now that the practice is illegal in 19 states, maybe it’s time you waited until you got to your destination to check email or text someone.
